here is a short note on the consideration of hierarchical structure of
_experience_. This is in contrast to a functional organization of control and
so ramblings on the former should not be reflected about the latter. I am
unfortunately witnessing an increasingly liberal leap from systems analysis to
our psychological contents. For example, "By resetting my reference level..."
This is clearly wrong. We do not reset reference levels. We live and might
analyze that living as a resetting of reference levels, but to refer to the
explanation of the living as the living is dangerously close to removing any
other consideration. Just a caveat.

This statement may well be profound, but I cannot understand it.
Could you provide an example?

Explanations and the things that are to be explained are distinct.
To substitute the theory _as the_ observation is at best tautological. Worse
includes a increasing rigidity to consider the observations in any other way,
or ala Pythagoras a denial of this world for a more "true" one. Just as our
membranes do not calculate the concentration and voltage gradients such that
Nerst's equations hold true, so neither do we "rest our reference levels" .
To suggest that is what you do is court a very strange epistimology. That
really we just plumb forgot until luckily Bill reminded us. When persons
talk as if they do, they are overstepping the lines of what theories are
about.
In sum, there are about's, and there are is's. Observations are is's. Kissing,
lying, considering college are is's. HPCT is about that, it is not the is.
