An Engineer Looks at the Economy

[From Bill Powers (2006.06.26.1238 MDT)]

Sorry, ECON005.exe was the wrong file. Should have been PECON005.exe

http://www.streamload.com/powersbill/PECON005.exe

Bill P.

Regarding the three attachments below:

I didn't try downloading the first one because you sent me a correction,
which did download.

The second one below resulted in an error message (an error occurred).

The third one resulted in a message saying file not found.

I concur on both counts; the issues are pretty clear but the
diagrams are interesting. However, the diagrams contain his
theory, or his recommendations for how the economy should be
organized, and this is not clear in the diagrams. Also, there
are some mysterious aspect to his Fig. A2-3, particularly
treating Assets as a variable 90 degrees out of phase with
liabilities and capital. He's thinking of AC circuits,
obviously, but why is not clear.

All in all, I guess I finally decided that while the idea of
diagrams like these is a good one, these are probably not the
ones to use.

Just for general interest, here are three files you can
download from my Streamload hosted files. They are the latest
version of my economic model as I was working on it about
three years ago when I ran afoul of the late Bill Williams'
untreated diabetic problems. I really miss him from the days
before that all happened. He was a friend for 30 years and
Mary and I both enjoyed his company a lot.

Download these files into the same folder/directory. The
instructions explain what you see, and suggest some
experiments. This model has only a few of the features a full
model would need, but it does behave in some interesting ways.
You can print the bitmap (.bmp) file if you just want to see
the overall diagram. Click on each link to start downloading it.

not a misprint)

I've discovered that Streamload is case-sensitive. Also I left an "a" out of the bitmap file name. Here is the proper list, with capital letters where needed, but read on.

  http://www.streamload.com/powersbill/PECON005.exe

  http://www.streamload.com/powersbill/Instruct005.txt

  http://www.streamload.com/powersbill/econ004a.bmp

When I tried these out, I didn't get downloads -- Streamload displayed the text and bitmap (bmp) files and gave an error when it tried to run the .exe. Maybe that's because I have an account, but more likely something is malfunctioning at Streamload. I'll enquire. You can try them, but if you see the diagram when you try to download econ004a.bmp, something is wrong.

Best,

Bill P.

I think you forgot a “p”. The correct URL is

http://www.streamload.com/powersbill/pecon005.exe

Maybe the “p” is Powers?
