Hans, I owe you an apology. When I was replying to your post, my
brain must have been running open-loop. You did not say that
turning the thermostat higher would make the house heat faster,
or that doing so would lower fuel bills. Your description of the
way the predictive thermostat works said that the system sampled
the time required to heat the house to the desired set point,
which was the "alternative" solution I proposed (a real
alternative would have been to sample the temperature at the set
time, and vary the turn-on time accordingly). My comment made it
seem that you were committing elementary errors, which you were
not doing. Sorry.
