About Calow.
The book is Biological Machines- A Cybernetic Approach to Life by Peter
Calow,Univ. of Glasgow, Pub. by Edward Arnold, London, 1976. QH 507

Ch. 5 'Control in Life' almost hits on the same concepts that Powers does.
Also his arguments against Vitalism are very clear. What puzzles me is that
he has no reference to Powers whose book actually was published earlier
(1973). However I am prejudiced in favor of Powers.

I was just curious as to whether the two even had heard of each other.

An interesting and probably irrelevant thought. Shamans in Siberian Yorts
are known to tie a cord to their big toe. The cord (hidden) connects to the
tent support network. When spirits are invoked a toe movement sets the yort
(tent) vibrating. Surely spirits are present.
And when, yesterday, I picked up a dozen volumes on Cybernetics for
review, instead of shaking tent walls I found page after page of
differential equations that vibrated before my eyes. Surely the authors
easily outperformed the Siberian shamans!

I am busy using a Procrustian bed to fit my Sheldonian Somatotype paradigm
into the perception control universe.
