I have finally received the conference package from Boston
University. So now we have to talk about _real_ money matters!

The CSG conference is not going to be cheap but the CSG is
willing to help people who need it (students and anyone else
with limited resources).

I currently have a list of 26 "for sure" conference attendees.
Given that number and the quoted cost of the meeting facilities
(meeting room, meeting management, catered and contract dining)
the fee for the conference will have to be $240/attendee. That
may seem like a lot but it's about the same as other (lesser;-))
conferences and it includes a breakfast every day, catered
snacks at the meeting and a Saturday evening clambake dinner.

I know that some people plan to attend only one or two days
of the conference; others are spouses who don't plan to
attend at all. We can work this out. For now, I would appreciate
it if everyone who is coming to the conference would send their
conference fee ($240) to me ASAP! Please make checks payable
to the Control Systems Group. I have to send a $6000 deposit to
Boston U by May 5 so it would be nice if you could send the
money to me right away.

The conference fee does not include rooms. Dormitory rooms
have been reserved for the meeting at the following prices:

$45/night single occupancy
$76/night double occupancy

You pay for the rooms through the Control Systems Group
as well. So, if you know you are staying for the entire
meeting (4 nights) please send an extra $180 (for a
single) or $304 (for a double) with your conference fee.
If you want a room for only 3 or 2 nights, then the
cost is only 3 or 2 times the price listed above.

So, if you are a single staying for 4 nights please send
the Control Systems Group a check for $420 ($240 conference
+ $180 room). If you are attending the meeting with a spouse
who is not attending please send the CSG $544 ($240 for the
conference and $304 for a double occupancy room).

If you want to attend the meeting but can't afford to without
financial help just send me an e-mail and we can discuss how
the CSG can help you without setting up a cycle of
dependency;-)

Starting tomorrow, I will be out of town for a couple weeks
(I'm going to visit my delightful daughter who has been living
in Barcelona). So I might not be able to deal with special
requests until the end of April. But if you plan to attend
the meeting, please feel free to send your conference fee and
room fee to the above address right away.

are not on the net (or, if they are, I haven't noticed any
posts from them in quite some time):

Registration Fee: $240/person $360/couple

Registration fee includes $20/person dues for membership in CSG.
It also includes 2 full breakfasts (Thursday and Friday morning,
7/27 and 7/28) and dinner on Saturday evening, 7/29.

Dormitory rooms are available at the conference site. The
room rates are $45/day single occupancy and $76/day double
occupancy. These rates are for air conditioned rooms. If you
are willing to settle for a non-air conditioned room (in
Boston in the summer) the rates are $39/day single occupancy
and $64/day double occupancy.

I will repeat the above announcement every couple of weeks
prior to the conference.

I have already received payment from a few people. It would
be nice to get payments as soon as possible from everyone
so that we know how many will actually be attending and so
that I can make the down payment for the conference facilities.

Boston University is pretty close to Logan (Boston) Airport
as I recall. But some people who live in the Boston area
have volunteered to drive people from the Airport to the
conference. So another good reason to register ASAP is so
that I can arrange transportation for people who want it.

A note on the dorm rooms. Apparently single occupancy guests
are likely to be sharing a bathroom. Double occupancy guests
will have a bathroom to themselves. I am currently checking
with Boston University to see whether singles who want a
private bathroom can do so by paying for a double occupancy
room. I believe this should work but I have not yet received
confirmation.

The conference fees include the rental of computer projection
facilities for one day: Thursday, 7/27. If you are doing a
presentation that involves computer projection, please let
me know; there is time available in the Thursday evening
session for use of the computer projection facilities. We can
project computer displays even without the computer projection
facilities, using the video equipment. But the computer
projection facilities give better fidelity. So if you have
a presentation where high quality computer projection is
important please contact me about reserving a Thursday
afternoon session ASAP.

Conference Update

There are still some people who, I believe, are on CSGNet
who have not RSVP'd to me regarding CSG 2K. I would really
appreciate it if everyone could let me know ASAP whether
they will be attending the conference.

Things are going quite well, by the way. It looks like
we now have about 26 conference attendees for sure, not
a large number but a very high quality group. Some people
will only be able to attend for a day or two. If you
recognize the enormous scientific and human significance
of PCT, then I think it behooves you to make every effort
to show your support for this idea by attending at least
one day of the Control Systems Group conference. If you
are unable to stay for the entire conference, your fee
(see below) will be reduced on a prorated basis.

If you will be attending the CSG conference and will need
overnight parking at BU, parking permits are available
through conference services for $10/night. I will be
happy to purchase these permits in advance for anyone who
wants them.

If you will need to stay at BU on a non-conference night
(before Wednesday, 7/26 or after Saturday, 7/29) I need
to reserve rooms for you in advance. These rooms will
be in a different residence hall than the one used for
the conference, but I believe that the room rates are
the same, per night, as the conference rate.

If you would like something other than a clambake dinner
on Saturday night, please let me know and I will order
a substitute entre for you.

PS to Mary P: Obviously, the general liability insurance
requirement has turned out _not_ to be a show stopper. It
will be less than $75/day.
