[From Bruce Abbott (960118.1850 EST)]
Just thought I'd mention that I've been experiencing some really significant
delays in receiving postings from CSGNET. Although there may be some for
whom this is a normal state of affairs, it is a recent phenomenon for me. A
request to the uiuc listserv took only 12 minutes to reach Gary's server but
the reply message about processing my request did not appear for two hours,
and U.I.U.C. isn't all that far from Fort Wayne; I can _drive_ nearly
half-way there in the time it took that message to return. So what's
happening is that I'm reading replies and replies to replies before I even
see the original message. There's one now from Bill Powers, to which Martin
Taylor has already replied, which apparently went out at 0850 MST (1150 EST)
and which I have yet to see. Why it should be faster to get from U.I.U.C.
to Montreal than next door is a mystery to me. And a message I sent to
CSGNET a couple of days ago has yet to arrive there; that was the one I had
to repost.
For those who are used to getting prompt replies from me, please bear these
delays in mind. I may not have seen your message yet.
Regards,
Bruce
