Let's see, this means that when you sat in that seminar at Carl Rogers'
University of Chicago Counselling Center and listened to Clark, MacFarland,
and me talking about something called "feedback theory" in 1957, 46 years
ago, you must have been 31 years old. A mere child. Of course I was the
same age, minus three or four months. You've been part of Mary's life and
mine for more than half a lifetime, and a part of what we now call PCT for
longer than it has even had a name. You're the guy who asked, at that
meeting of the American Society for Cybernetics in Philadephia, in 1984 I
think, after our presentations had been attended by practically nobody but
our group, "Why did we come all the way to Philadephia for this? Why
shouldn't we have our own group?" Which, of course, led to the meeting at
the dormitory that evening where the 15 or 17 of us, however many it was,
decided to form The Control Systems Group, which will soon have its 19th
consecutive meeting. You are the instigator and honored founder of the CSG,
and long may you live.
