Ed, are you saying in your post, Ed Ford [950826], that Rick M _CAUSED_ you to
feel the way you do and because of that your're leaving the net ? Is that
congruent with PCT theory ?. I don't think so. You have every right to "feel"
the way you do, But _YOUR_ the one formulating the refernce levels and
perceptions.
I don't think it matters WHAT Rick thinks about your program. What matters or
should matter is _YOUR_ perception of what Rick says. If it distur you why not
clarify you perception by asking Rick how he arrived at that point of view. Of
course you would actually have to care about that point of view to want to
understand it. Blaming Rick for _YOUR_ frustration is, I believe, very non
PCTish.
Second. Ed I just finished reading W.Glassers books on _Reality Therapy_ and
_Control Systems_. I am interested in the changes you have made to the
Reality Therapy model you initially used for your therapy and school programs
to bring it more into line with PCT.

PCT Applications.
I have followed with great interest over the last week or so the threads on
PCT Applications. I have a different slant on it and would like to get some
feedback on my views. I do not view PCT as a set of potential "tools". As a
business consultant "practical" is how I make my living. I believe PCT offers
a _VERY STURDY FOUNDATION_ for understanding the how and why's of human
behavior. PCT is IMHO, not about specific methods or tools per se. There may
be any number of useful methods that may be used. The critical question in my
mind is , IS it congruent and compatible with the model. What is the model ?
My incomplete version is;
1)behavior controls our perception. Behavior is an input that helps us
"sometimes" to reduce the error betwwen our reference levels and
perception. THIS IS AN IMUTABLE LAW. This NEVER EVER varies. If you utilize a
method where this can vary, it AIN'T PCT.
2)We each control for our OWN perceptions. My translation is that we DECIDE
what WE will Believe (ie see). only WE can change that for OURSELVES. Methods
that adhere to a policy of trying to manipulate, coerce, and generally try to
_CONTROL_ how OTHERS think and perceive AIN'T using PCT.
3)PCT is very much a philisophical way of understanding how and why we think
like we do. You can't turn it off and on like a water faucet. Either you
believe in the basic tenents it or you don't. There is obviously no crime in
having a different set of beliefs it just AIN'T PCT. Any tools, methods that
are utilized with respect to helping others must minimally adhere to #1 and #2
above. If not IMHO it AIN'T PCT.
