Ennui

[From Bill Powers (980321.1050 MST)]

Phil Runkel has wondered why I haven't replied to some of his posts, and
I'm sure others have noticed a certain incompleteness in my comments, if
not a total lack. The reason is simple: I get overcome with a great sense
of futility and distinterest, which translate into desperate sleepiness,
when confronted once again with "What does PCT have to say about ..." or
"Isn't this really just like PCT" and other such things. I don't care about
the answers to such questions. I don't want to have to try to think up
answers just to be nice. In fact, I think I will soon stop responding to
such things at all. Those who want to drop everything they used to think
about behavior and start over again using PCT will probably arouse me from
my lethargy, but those who want to preserve anything they're done before,
or defend their favorite mentors or heros, or their profession, or all like
that, can do it without me. My brain balks; my interest shrivels; my
attention wanders; my patience dwindles like the snow patches under the
Southwestern sun outside. I have fought the good fight. I have done what I
can. The future of PCT is up to those who are willing to take it on.

(Not At My) Best,

Bill P.

Maybe you are not at your best, but I think you are still firmly
on track. I have been amazed at your patience.

Getting near the bottom of the tank, though. I think I'm reorganizing
something.

Best,
