Everyday Life Example of Applied PCT

Incident: I was visiting a patient in a nursing home. We were having a
session in the dayroom. Another patient was at the doorway of the
room. I asked him to please leave us alone, we were having a meeting.
He said something which I interpreted as no.

I tried to push his wheelchair out of the doorway and close the door.
He resisted by holding his hands on the doorway.

I guessed that he wanted to come in. So, I went into the hallway and
pushed his wheelchair into the room. He did not resist coming into the
room. Then, I turned the wheelchair around and pushed his wheelchair
out of the room and down the hallway.

He did not try to resist going through the doorway when I was wheeling
him out of the room.

My guess of what experience he was controlling--coming into the room.

I don't think he wanted to stay in the room because he did not resist
when I wheeled him out. He did not seem upset when I wheeled him down
the hallway and deposited him near the multipurpose room.

I was told by patient that the man was " retarded . "
