Bill Williams 19 May 2004 10:00 PM CST--
However, there is nothing in such an approach that necessarily requires
that
one refer to this or that economist as an asshole or a tax cheat.
I have done neither.
But, you did.
I have never, to my present recollection,
I remember it.
called any
economist an asshole (though I did, correctly I believe, refer to Mises as
an old fascist),
This is an example of what I am talking about, an example that I don't have
to
go looking in the archive to find.
Ludwig von Mises is, I will say again, not my favorite economist. However,
he was never a fascist. Call someone a fascist is a very serious charge.

I guess I can read well enough to see that Bill Powers doesn't see anything
wrong with making false charges like saying that Ludwig von Mises is a
fascist.
Bill Powers defends his calling Ludwig a fascist saying, that he did so
"correctly."
Does he have any evidence of this. No he doesn't. Ludwig may have been
an unpleasant character, or not, but he was never a fascist.
Why does Bill Powers say stuff like this when it isn't true? One thing is
that he
seems to have a great deal of anger that from time to time just pops out.
Then
he expects people to ignore what he says. And, if they don't ignore what he
said then he denys having said, it. And, if you show him where he said it
he still
denys having said it. So, apparently as long as he perceives he didn't say
it then
it is OK.
Seems to me like a pretty good operational defintion of a solipcist.
The problem for Bill Powers is that other people have memories, and there is
an archive if you want to go rooting about in it, but Bill Powers doesn't
care
about this-- as long as they don't confront him when he says something that
isn't
true. Then he says,
> Dammit, Bill, you simply can't read what is in front of your eyes.

I did, correctly I believe, refer to Mises as an old fascist
Bill Powers doesn't care whether he has evidence for such an assertion or
not.
As far as he is concerned if he "belives" that it is true then it is true.
