going inside

Just to let you know, my book about current directions in consciousness
research (and the emerging dynamical systems take on the brain) is now out
and available.

If you have received this note, it is because you know me (we've
corresponded or I've written past articles about your work); because your
research features in the book; or because I know you are particularly
interested in the hunt for the neural code, non-linear science and
system-level theories of the brain.

In case my name does not ring a bell, I am a London-based neuroscience
writer who does stuff regularly for the New Scientist (see article this
week on what PET scans tell about the difference between consciousness and
habit).

some of the early comments on Going Inside:

"McCrone gives the feel of really having been inside the labs and even the
machines. It makes splendid reading." - Steven Rose, Open University.

"An excellent book and a rather unique one." - Karl Friston, Institute of
Neurology

"In a fast-moving and thought provoking book, McCrone describes the
scientists and their work in vivid detail. He pieces together a picture of
the struggles and excitement of working in a field transformed by new
techniques of brain scanning and neuro-imaging." - Susan Blackmore,
University of the West of England.

"McCrone's latest book succeeds where many others have failed. It tackles
the peculiar problems facing scientists who want to understand how a lump
of flesh like the brain can light up with the inner glow of experience." -
Mike Harrison, The Science Reporter
