[From Rick Marken (970731.1010 PCT)]
Hans Blom (970731) --
Gee, I thought you gave up on us since you never replied to my
"on the road" post {Rick Marken (970717.1230 PCT)] where I asked
you for _some_ experimental evidence of model-based control in
living systems. No evidence yet, eh?
Don't forget, Bruce, that PCT presents itself as something _new_
and that you and I (and some others!) see similarities with
other and earlier theories or proposals thereof.
What does your (and Bruce's and, for that matter, nearly all of the life
science community's) ability to see similarities between PCT
and earlier theories have to do with anything other than your
desire to see PCT as no threat to your beliefs and your careers.
If PCT is so similar to other theories and proposals (about the
evolution and behavior of living systems) then you should have
no problem pointing me to places where these theories and
proposals talk about 1) the perceptual variables organisms
control and 2) methods for determining what perceptual variables
organisms are controlling.
Two things live side by side and need to go hand in hand: 1)
realization of the internal goals and 2) adjustment to the actual
environment. No either/or. Just like in organisms...
What in the world do you think PCT is about?
Best
Rick
