Kennaway Robot Fund

[From Bruce Nevin (2002.03.26.2230 EST)]

I will match Bill's pledge, and double it with a matching grant from my employer.

What address should we use? And what tax ID?

I think your plans for building a walking Kennaway Robot are extremely
interesting, and I propose that the CSG start a Robot Fund for helping you
to put it together. I will pledge $200 a year to this fund as long as it's
needed (maybe more, I haven't talked with Mary about this), and invite
other CSGers to chip in also if you agree to making it a formal CSG project
and there are enough other donors to reach the threshold of feasibility.
Maybe you could drag matching funds out of the University, or from a grant.
Note that contributions to the CSG are tax-deductible: CSG is a 501-c-3
not-for-profit scientific and educational organization with a Federal tax
number and everything.

I think you could send the check directly to Bruce Abbott. But if you are
worried about being audited you can send the money to me, earmarked for the
"Robot Fund". I'll deposit it into the CSG coffers and send a check from the
CSG to Bruce A. My address is 10459 Holman Ave, LA, CA 90024. The tax ID
number for the Control Systems Group is 84-1235512.

If we are going to move forward with this, I would prefer than any money be
sent to the CSG account, not to me. I think this would foster
accountability. Monies drawn from that account would be done on the basis
of submitted receipts for expenses incurred.

I would also plan to post on the web occasional photos and other informtion
documenting the progress of the project.

Sounds like a plan.

Send the money to me, folks. Make the checks payable to "CSG Robot Fund".

Best

Rick
