Learning and evolution- retry

[From Shannon Williams (951105)]

Bruce Abbott (951104.0945 EST) had answered me:

The mechanism for learning needs to follow the same general principles
as other evolution mechanisms.

The variation part isn't too difficult to visualize...

And I responded:

I would say that the outputs of the different active control loops
constitute the different variations.

But it just occurs to me that the variation is many different *control
loops* not *outputs*. Many control loops must be initially spawned from the
control loop that is originally disturbed. When faced with a problem over
and over, the original control loop does not select the loops that it
*knows* are ineffectual. (IE. it does not bother with loops that had never
been selected before the disturbance went away). In this way, an
effective loop is eventually selected for.

Anyway... I just ran from the gym to jot this down. Now it is time to eat.
