Misunderstood post (from Mary)

[from Mary Powers 940528]

Bob Clark:

I said (940717)

...this implies programs are stored and brought up as needed. A
strong implication of planned action.

Bob said (940527)

this is very close to my own concept of these operations. I
certainly agree with your first sentence -- and I think we agree
that people use "planned action".

Wait a minute - we've got a serious misunderstanding going here.
When I said Bob's post implied those things, I intended it as a
criticism, not an agreement. I now see that Tom read my post the
same way Bob did - as an endorsement of planned action. What I
meant was, that is how Bob's post impressed me - as implying
planned or programmed action. What I did not say, because I
assumed (wrongly) that it would be obvious, was that planned
action is a computational model and has nothing to do with PCT,
which is about the control of perception, not the generation of
planned acts.

More later, because it's past bedtime, and we have to go watch
the Iron Horse bike race tomorrow.
