Purpose: To cover Model II or the alternative to Model I. I am attempting to break down Action Science into little digestible bites with the emphasis on relativity to PCT.
According to Argyris, Model I theories-in-use are what we walk around with. Sometimes, Argyris postulates that we encounter threats and problems that require different values then Model I, to help resolve. These values are;
-
Valid information
-
Free and informed choice
-
Internal commitment to the choice and constant monitoring of it’s implementation.
People who espouse Model II behavior but use Model I theories-in-use, come off as phony and gimmicky. Model II is not a “different” behavioral model. It simply has different "goals, reference conditions, and perceptions. Model I & Model II are one in the same.
