I think I will understand MOL better, the better I understand HPCT. I think
Bill described the levels very well in B:CP, but there are still concepts I
am short of.
I shall not be too detailed. Bill was very clear in his 8.chapter where he
described the second level. He did a wonderful job describing how a weighted
summation of intensity signals resulted in a sensation. This summation is
simple to understand when we talk about a grimace in the face or a twisted
arm. And I also understand a colour as a vector summation of intensities.
But then it stops. What is the meaning of a vector summation of intensities
my tongue and from a pressure on my arm. I know some people tell that they
hear a colour as a tone and I think there are more children doing that than
grown up people. Is sensing references something we reorganize and do
somebody reorganize in a way other people say is "wrong"?
Bill said that intensity signals from different kinds of sources reach their
groups of second-order input functions - sight, sound, kinaesthesia and
balance signals may thus all contribute to a single sensation signal
It is easy to understand that different muscle sensing (level 2) perceptions
form a configuration. What do different sound-, taste- and tactile
perceptions perform?
It is easy to understand that different muscle configurations and different
sight configurations form a kind of movement. I have much to learn about the
different levels, particular the category and sequences levels, and I think
the 100 of us in CSG have much to contribute with if we collect our
understanding about the different levels. If all of you or some of you
contribute with your understanding and your knowledge, I will edit the
contributions and present them later.
I will start up a new thread each Monday and name them Level 1, Level 2,
....Level 11, and in my first mails I will mention some statements I think
are important and I will put question marks with state of things I am
unsure. I hope somebody contributes. If there is no interest and no follow
up s I stop before I reach Level 11.
I start today and continue with level 2 on Monday.
