This is an urgent notice from the CSG treasurer (me).
I have received or have been promised fees for the 2002 CSG conference in Chapel
Hill, NC from thirteen people. If we do not receive fees (or firm promises
thereof) from 15 more people there will _ not_ be sufficient funds in the CSG
treasury to cover the costs of the conference.
If we do not have sufficient funds to cover the conference it will have to be
canceled. If the conference is canceled I'm sure we will still owe some amount
of money to the conference centers as a penalty (is that right, Fred?). I
don't know how much that will be but I believe that, should we have to cancel
the conference, we are currently in a position to be able to cover that penalty
and return the fees to all who have already paid. But I don't know for sure.
So the CSG is in a very precarious financial situation. The best solution is to
have _at least_ fifteen more people commit to the conference. That way we can
have our cake (the conference) and eat it (pay for it) too.
I therefore ask that anyone on CSGNet who is planning _for sure_ to attend the
2002 conference but who has not send in their fee (or their promise thereof)
let me know _immediately_. I am controlling for having enough money in the CSG
treasury to allow me to write a (good) check for the balance of the conference
to the Aqueduct Conference Center.
