What a wonderful piece of garbage; current, trendy, major publisher
and about as silly as it can be. I think Gary Cziko should invite Locke,
Latham and Bandura to participate in CSGNet. They could sure help
clear up our model-glazed vision of purposeful behavior. By the
way, Gary, any reply from those other experts on hierarchical control
theory -- Fowler and Turvey?

The next time anyone
thinks we are extreme in our criticisms of those who attempt to "popularize"
PCT by introducing unmodeled verbal revisions and trendy-sounding
psycho-babble, the person should read that post. It documents what can
happen when blatant foolishness concerning PCT is not exposed for what it is.
I think we can take our fingers out of the dike now; it looks like the ocean
of psycho-babble idiocy is unstoppable. I think that there is actually
something rather harmonious about the fact that the current dark age
period is starting about 1000 years after the previous one, which
started about 1000 years after the pervious one, etc. Maybe there is
something to this Millenium stuff; there will be a second coming all
right -- the second coming of deep, profound and purposeful ignorance.

It is every bit as unstoppable! And your remark gives me an idea of how we
can fund the PCT Institute. Whenever one of us finds someone who expects
the world to end on the stroke of midnight at the end of 1999 (exactly one
year before the end of the millenium), we should offer to relieve them of
their bothersome worldly possessions. They can just sign them over to the
Institute. And we should make the same offer to the genuinely enlightened
experts on control theory, immediately before they set out to live through
one day as though their ideas were correct.
There is no need to worry about being caught in our scam. With the first
group, we will be comfortably hidden away at the Institute before they
discover their mistake. And the experts will not survive past breakfast.
