One of the 11 articles is by Frans X. Plooij and Hedwig H.C. van de Rijt-
Plooij: _Reorganizations of a control hierarchy._ This is a story of how
they could see the development of free living chimpanse infants and their
emerging control capabilities.
Additionally, Dick Robertson gave me the following two references in
1992:

Distinct periods of mother-infant conflict in normal development: source
of progress and germs of pathology, The journal of child psychology and
psychiatry, in press (probably published by now).
Here, the Plooijs show that all infants experience 11 periods of control
development in the first 18 months of life. These are characterized by
regression, conflict and a new plateau of capability. One step back and
two forward, so to speak.
I gave a graphic interpretation of this in one of my short presentations
at the Durango conference last summer. A video record of the conference
