I was looking into some old files written with XyWrite in 1993, and came
across this (attached) abandoned start for a book. It would probably make a
pretty good stand-alone article, except that for publication in a
scientific journal it would have to be jazzed up with dozens of references
to back up all the claims and comments about how scientists have thought
about things. I still like the line of reasoning and there are some not-bad
zingers in it, too. For your entertainment.
