1. I am playing a Nintendo game. Feedback is immediate and the goal
is clear. Disturbances are numerous. I am totally engrossed in the
process. Ideally suited to an analysis in terms of PCT.
2. I am playing the infamous Windows Solitaire game. Again feedback
is immediate and the goal clear. The outcome is not predictably linked
to my actions. This lack of predictable outcome constitutes part of
the appeal of the game, but means that I can more readily be
discouraged by a run of "the luck of the deal". I can exercise only
limited control of the outcome. Seems like this game might be suited to
an analysis in terms of PCT.
3. I am watching the Red Socks play baseball. I totally lack any
ability to control the outcome -- no feedback. The goal is clear and
I can become deeply interested in the progress of the game and the
out of the season. Clearly spectator sports exercise a deep hold on
the human psyche. Does PCT have anything to say about this situation?
