One of the great pleasures of living in Minnesota in the 1970s
was discovering Garrison Keillor before everyone else did. Not
only is Garrison a great writer and humorist, he also has a
world view that is comfortably compatible with my own. I was
reminded of this fact yesterday when I stumbled upon a delightful
piece that Garrison wrote about the recent impeachment exercise:

Garrison seems to have an intuitive understanding of the
problems created by controlling with high gain for social
perceptions (like the perception of "telling the truth") as
reflected in these comments:

There is a level of morality that is too high to be
maintained in a democracy. The America that the Thirteen
Angry House Managers envision is a rather bleak place
where most of us would be in prison or within view of it.

All I can add is "Has your family tried it, PCT"?

We can take comfort that this level of morality is only required of
Democrats. If you are a Republican, an entirely different, and much more
flexible set of rules seems to apply. I'm off to change my voter
registration....
