I see that Tom knows far more about psychophysics than I ever did! And
yes, I did mean it in the sense suggested by Bruce, that sensory
perception results from energies impinging on the organism, with some
sort of systematic relation between amount of energy & intensity of
the perception, etc., with no reference at all to the intricacies.
I'm not sure about the 'modest suggestion'. But it seems to me that the
thing to avoid when presenting this stuff is claims about
(non-)existence, (non-)veridicality, etc. It does not follow from
the fact that the PIF;s whereby I perceive Maggie as a dog and Max as
a cat are in some sense arbitrary that Max and Maggie don't exist.
More later, perhaps, I've got some reading to do.
