In response to Martin, I agree with Rick's comments. Dynamic systems do not
control.
If I said this (which is possible) I was thinking of "dynamic systems"
as "nonlinear attractor" models of the type beloved of Kelso, Turvey,
et al. As Bill Powers pointed out, a control system is certainly a dynamic
system (variables change continuously over time) and it certainly does control.
Other than that, I am profoundly interested in reading your answers to the
questions that Bill Powers (931126.0730 MST) just posed to you. In
particular, I would like to know (along with Bill):
what the ecological folks mean by the term control;
it could be that we aren't talking about the same phenomenon.
In what way does HPCT fall short of handling the phenomenon of
intentionality?
how would you say that one recognizes
intentional behavior when it's going on?
Clear answers to these questions might go a LONG way to clarifying
the reasons for the nearly total lack of interest in PCT by con-
nentional psychologists.
