Marty, I think you've succeeded in extending PCT to the realm I am
describing. For what I call cycles (e.g., in law enforcement, or in a
chaos theory chapter of the geometry book on intergenerational
political transitions) you can substitute "oscillations." The
oscillations are amplified as people attend to fixed institutional
referents (e.g., national military prowess).
Once again you show how readily one model can be encompassed within
another. I do think the ongoing struggle each of us faces as between
being reduced by fear to unilateral action and being elevated by trust
to enjoying interaction produces its own results, and that it helps to
draw a clear distinction between the two forms of control.
Of course "control" can be used for anything we do. The question
remains, what form of control are we talking about. Y'all in PCT are
mighty conscientious about defining what you mean by control. And in
PCT I can see that you, Marty, are inquiring about the same process as
I am.
By the way, what is a practicing experimental psychologist? Are you
licensed to have subjects and to treat rats? Pardon my
ignorance...l&p hal
