Today marks the official retirement of John Gabriel from the staff of
Argonne National Laboratory. John has had a brilliant career as an
applied mathematician for over 40 years, first in the UK and for the
last 26 years here at ANL. The last 3 years, John has been my Senior
Scientist and good friend.

John's postings to this net have always been of high scientific
quality, even if not always in tune with prevailing sentiment or
understanding of the evidence presented.

I hope you will join me in encouraging John Gabriel to do for the net
what I have asked him to do for my team at Argonne - drop by every
once in a while to see if we are still on track.
