Sunsts and PCT

If that's all you're going to do then I'll reply to you by giving you
references. I'll start with Marken, R. (2002) _More Mind Readings_, NC:

new

view. Check it out.

I did, why don't you do likewise?

> I am not going to attempt to convince you of a thing.

What are you doing, then?

Actually, I'm trying to help. I'm not asking you to take on any of my
beliefs. I'm asking you to investigate the possibility that the model you
are working with might be flawed and inaccurate. Most people wouldn't bother
to stick around. They would just walk away shaking their heads. I think you
should be thankful that someone cares enough to bring these things up. I
noticed that the list is down to 98 from 99 this morning. Do you know who
signed off? See what I mean?

I thanked you and Bill for helping me be in a position to be able to
ascertain the wheat from the chaff. I thought the least I could do is
reciprocate. I really thought I was coming back with some useful material.
As I said, I don't think I have ever been so wrong in my life.

Then why do you keep posting to CSGNet?

See above.

You must care about what someone here is thinking, no?

I don't so much care what people think of me, I happen to care for a few
folks on this net. They may not respond but I know they're out there and
listening.

I have been doing this for the last 25 year. By I do it by testing models
against data. I don't do it by reading books written by presumed authorities --
_any_ presumed authorities. Indeed, my experience with PCT shows that the
authorities have very often been wrong, especially when it comes to their basic
assumptions about the nature of human behavior and experience. As Bill Powers
(2003.07.04.0851 MDT) shows in terms of classical conditioning of emotion, "the
meaning of what you see depends heavily on the theoretical glasses you wear
while looking at the data". There is not much to be learned from authorities
who are looking at human behavior, experience and physiology through causal
rather than control theory glasses.

If you really want to help out with the development of PCT then I would
strongly suggest that you take Isaac's excellent advice and do some modeling
and/or research to test the model.

Best regards

Rick
