TCP?

[From Fred Nickols (030500.1105 EST)]--

I obviously missed something somewhere along the way (no news there). Who
or what is TCP? (I have a definition from my teen-age years but I don't
think it applies.)

Let me explain, if I may. TCP is an affectionate nickname for Treval C.
Powers, author of Leakage: The Bleeding of the American Economy, Benchmark
Publications Inc., 1996. He is also the father of William Treval Powers, an
author you already know very well.

TCP took up a concentrated twenty-year study of macroeconomics after a
life-long career as a research chemist, applying the same rigor to this work
as he had for so many years to the study of advanced materials science, to
which he made major contributions. He died in June of 1997 at the age of
97.5, more-or-less satisfied he had taken this new work as far as he could.

His greatest wish was for younger people to take up his ideas and test them,
make course corrections as necessary, and carry them forward so that one day
we could "stop teaching our children false ideas about economics." TC knew
without a doubt that his fundamental ideas would hold, but he also knew his
lmitations (most of the time). His son understands TC's work much better
than TC ever grasped control theory, not from lack of respect or interest.
The lack was mostly (I infer) due to the enormous energy it took at his age
to maintain his concentration on his own work.

It's exciting to see Rick Marken make the bridge between PCT and Leakage.
This promising, scientific study would please TC....now that he is far enough
away from the work to let it go.

For more on the book and the author, see www.benchpress.com/bookstor. Thanks
for asking--we miss him a lot.

TCP is Treval Clifford Powers, my late father, who wrote a book on
macroeconomics called "Leakage" in the 1970s and 1980s and published it in
1996, when he was 96 years old. He died the following year.

Best,
