who wrote what

[from Mary Powers (991017)]

People are forgetting (or never have bothered) to head their posts like I
have above (some also include hour and time zone). And they don't make it
very clear whether they are quoting someone or writing their own message.
For instance:

Recently Mark Lazare posted a reply to Bjorn by beginning the post not with
his own name but with [from Bjorn Simonsen (991013.23:36 EU-time], followed
by a quote which was neither preceded by a statement like "Bjorn said:" nor
in quotes nor set off with a > nor indented nor anything else. Rick saw
that it was from Mark but because of the omissions above attributed the
Bjorn quote to Mark. Perhaps not all that important, but it really does
help prevent confusion to use the conventions. Norman Hovda and Steve Adey
please also take note as well as Mark.

Thanks!
