Why? and Why not?

[From Dick Robertson,2004.03.18.0610CDT]

This is a couple of days out of date, because of the trouble I have
lately getting time on NEIU server, but I want to sent it anyway despite
all the water that seems to have flown over the dam since I wrote it.

I have already complained to the Control Syustems Group home site
webmaster about the blocking of my backup isp, "icdus.com". What if
some newcomer with that isp wanted to contact the net?

Anyway....

Why has such a pleasant theory (PCT) attracted such unpleasant people?

An interesting question and one worthy of serious study in its own
right,
but....

I mention this only as another piece of evidence that it might be
beneficial, for the sake of promoting interest in and understanding of PCT,
to make CSGNet (which is the only place I know of where PCT is actively
being taught) into a moderated list. CSGNet should be a place where we can
point people who are interested in PCT and not be afraid that what they will
find will be mainly ugly personal attacks.

I know that there are problems with list moderation. Mainly, the problem is
that it's a job that someone has to do. But I think this could be worked
out. Right now, I wonder (if anyone is still reading CSGNet) whether I could
get a show of hands regarding list moderation. How many of you who are still
on CSGNet are for moderation, how many are against it and why?

I can possibly make a case for, but mainly I am against. As you say,
it's a lot of work for somebody to monitor and besides that there is
always the question of censorship of something some people would regard
as worthy of discussion.

I personally have been subject to a couple of personal attacks and did,
indeed see the beginning of an escalation when I attempted to engage in
the duel, but in the second round I realized that my attempts to control
my desired perception, namely to perceive, "Oh, I see what you mean. OK
I'll give that some consideration," was nowhere near what I was
perceiving. So I simply did not answer. And the irritation vanished.

Oh, and I just saw Martin Taylor's first (I think) post on this topic ,

I know you don't agree with me, but I think it isn't that it has
attracted "unpleasant people". rather, it has attracted "unpleasant
behaviour", which is rather different.

And I agree wholeheartedly.
