2012 MOL workshop and CSG meeting: July 15-22.

[From Bill Powers (2011.10.31.1540 MDT)]

This might work: I leave the CSGNET address in the TO field and transfer all the rest to the CC field. Just takes a moment. Now anyone should be able to "reply-to-all." If you're not subscribed to CSGnet, that address will complain, but ignore the complaint. Please forward to anyone you think this should go to.

Dr. Lewis Harvey at University of Colorado at Boulder (CU), psych department chairman, is fully in accord with having University involvement in our 2012 CSG meeting. For various reasons, the best dates will be Sunday, July 15 (earliest arrival day) through Sunday, July 22 (departure day). The CSG meeting proper is being extended one day -- Tuesday evening (arrival) through Saturday instead of Wednesday evening through Saturday, because we expect this to be a larger than usual meeting. This will allow more people to present their work. Monday and Tuesday will be devoted to a workshop to teach MOL and also to get acquainted with some clinical people at CU who are involved with the closely-related "mindfulness" ideas. Arrival day for the workshop would be Sunday if we decide to go for a two-day workshop. The workshop does not preclude presentations on clinical or other applied subjects during the main CSG meeting.

For two main reasons we decided that a good part of the meeting, particularly plenary sessions (some or most of them), should be at the same venue as in 2011 -- the Outlook Hotel. One reason is cost: the University may charge more for bedrooms in dormitories and also for meals and use of meeting rooms, though we will double check that. The other reason is that everyone who commented on the Outlook venue said that they really liked it -- it's just a pleasant place to have a meeting.

But as Dr. Harvey pointed out, we can also use his department's facilities including, probably, access to a 400-seat auditorium for department-wide, university-wide, or even public presentations. The campus is quite close to the hotel, walking distance for those healthier than I.

Allie Powers, my older daughter, will again be liason between the CSG and the meeting venues (when she gets over having the flu).

I hope this announcement, though a bit delayed, is enough earlier than last year's so everyone can adjust schedules (like vacations) to fit the meeting in. Don't forget that Colorado's a pretty good place to have a vacation.

The earlier we get committments to attend, the better we will be able to plan the details. Contact Allie at CSGConference2012@gmail.com. But wait a few days for that new address to be set up -- I'll announce when it's established.

If we do decide to use the Outlook Hotel, the sleeping-room arrangements will be the same as last year: you contact the hotel directly on internet and make your own reservations, mentioning the CSG to be sure to get the room discount. Instructions will follow soon.

More communications soon, as the details get firmed up. Commit early! Save us from anxiety attacks!

Best,

Bill

Nothing shows up in the CC field when it's delivered from CSGNet.

But I did block off the dates for the meeting.
