Regardless of how one sees the journal articles that represent the
"state of the art," take a look at what's being taught impressionable
young minds. The fact is, those most likely to actually EMPLOY some
understanding of psychology in their daily activities with large numbers
of other people are being taught S-R and its derivatives as a basis for
making plans [e.g., lessons] and carrying them out.
Three current Educational Psychology texts (title "Educational
Psychology") by different authors, all basically leave students with the
same message:
OVERT BEHAVIORAL CHANGES ---> OPERANT CONDITIONING
COVERT BEHAVIORAL CHANGES ---> COGNITIVE APPROACH
By the latter I refer to "learning," that is, math operations or reading
skills. The former refers to getting students to do what you want them
to do (like sitting quietly). I don't care so much how one reads the
Bigwigs--what are teachers learning?
