Yesterday was the 90th Anniversary of the start of World War I, which
ended four great Empires and caused the decline of a fifth.
Usually, someone mentions these important Anniversaries, as reminders
that we do live in a real world, whatever the theoretical and
philosophical notions might be. But we all missed it.
So, belatedly, I say thank you to those living survivors of that most
terrible of conflicts, and hope that the soldier who said he hoped to
live to see the 90th Anniversary of its end will get his wish.
My father was in that war, and would be 110 if he were still alive. I
wonder if anyone is left but I doubt it.
We just passed August 6 also. It was barely noticed here. But then, 59
years is not an important anniversary, decimal-system-wise. I'm sure it was
not ignored in Japan.

We had our annual sunrise vigil up at Gay Head light. I didn't go but Sarah
did. People observe the commemoration all over the world. Some years ago
there were some survivors of Nagasaki here who joined our group.
