RP: It could be to make a copy of"He-who-must-not–named" on the back of the head of the Hogwarts professor in one of the early Harry Potter books/movies – but I assume we would have to talk to the artist to do more than guess at what perception he or she was controlling for.

If understanding the human conditions was
this simple, we could just asking a person now tell me Mr Serial Killer why did
you split your victim’s guts open and eat the entrails, and he answered well I
controlled for my hunger for human haggis you would accept that at face value
and our understanding of the human condition is satisfied, QED.

I think Richard’s point was that without considerable study and
communication, any attempt to guess at an answer to your question would
be futile. You would have to work with the individual to find out why the
individual did anything. Working from population statistics, you can’t
expect to learn much about any member of the population.
