Looking at book advertisements in the back of Isis vol 93 # 2 I saw an
ad for David A Mindell's _Between Human and Machine: Feedback, Control and
Computing before Cybernetics_ Johns Hopkins University Press. The ad copy
is not very informative, but it seems to me that the book might be an useful
supplment to Otto Mayr's studies of feedback mechanisms.
