I realize how little evidence I have the people _ever_ change their beliefs.
(The occurrence is so unusual that we even have a name for it--conversion.)
I suppose the question to ask is, "What kind of evidence would lead you to
change your mind about that?" If a convincing answer is not forthcoming,
best to change the subject.
