Sorry, I've been swamped with work and haven't been attending.

Seems to me you've told him you're going to be away, so there's no harm done being silent on your end for a bit. Gives you some time to think through a less hurried response that might be read in a less superficial way.

Here is a difficulty with the model of manipulation. In the rubber-band demo of counter-control, or in a mouse-cursor setup where we control qi by means of qo where qi is disturbed by value d, the input signal goes to one and only one input function. In actual situations with living control systems, any given input goes to an indeterminate number of input functions. The difficulty is in attempting to extrapolate from the laboratory scenario with its (appropriately!) artificial limitations to a living situation with indeterminate complexity.
