Broadbrush Marken on target as always

[From Dag Forssell (2002.01.28.0630)]

[From Rick Marken (2002.01.27.1750)]

My experience is that if people are not participating on CSGNet they are not
doing PCT. Of course, just because someone is on CSGNet doesn't mean that
they are necessarily doing PCT. But so far I have seen no exceptions to
the rule that if one is not on CSGNet they are not doing PCT (even if
they say they are).

"My experience" is based exclusively on armchair theorizing, isn't it? As
so often, your statements here are pure bull.

I think the rule holds because CSGNet is a place to learn and test one's
understanding of PCT. People who don't understand PCT (and think they do)
and/or don't want to hear challenges to their understanding of PCT are not
going to join (or stay on) CSGNet.

CSGnet is a place to get attacked by Rick Marken, who's understanding of
PCT as expressed on CSGnet is often very confused and contradictory (in
contrast to Rick Marken's published workes, which are carefully edited and
generally outstanding), but whose consideration of others is non-existent.

People who care deeply about PCT and are working hard to spread the word
are not wasting time on CSGnet, in large part because of Rick.

Dag Forssell (2002.01.28.0630)--

"My experience" is based exclusively on armchair theorizing, isn't it? As
so often, your statements here are pure bull.

By "my experience" I mean what I have observed.. My theory of why I have
observed this is, of course, based on perceptual control theory.

CSGnet is a place to get attacked by Rick Marken

It seems more like a place for people with various agendas to attack me when
_anyone_ say things that contradict those agendas.

who's understanding of
PCT as expressed on CSGnet is often very confused and contradictory (in
contrast to Rick Marken's published workes, which are carefully edited and
generally outstanding)

This is why it's good to be on CSGNet. When my understanding of PCT has been
"confused and contradictory" the discussions on CSGNet have helped clarify
things for me (or led me to develop demos that clarified things for me). People
who are not on CSGNet obviously can't benefit from this kind of quality control
process.

People who care deeply about PCT and are working hard to spread the word
are not wasting time on CSGnet, in large part because of Rick.

I know this is true. I didn't say that people who are not participating on
CSGNet don't care deeply about PCT and are not working hard to spread the word.
What I said was that they were not "doing PCT". What I meant was that they were
not involved in the _science_ of PCT, which I think of as an enterprise
involving peer review of one's work -- the quality control process I mentioned
above.

Best regards

Rick
