[C4I-Pro] Mind What David Says...

Given the sensitivity of data in the banking/financial world, and the
possible results from a IW attack in this arena...... why doesn't the
government authorize the use of truly secure cryptographic code/equipment?
I understand the need for the government to preserve it's capability to
monitor/eavesdrop on international/domestic traffic and all that entails,
but the need to defend against such a threat would seem to make the need
self-evident and logically - beyond prohibition. Am I the only one who
feels this way?

I have always been fond of David Probst because
he always makes me look like a diplomat--and his intellect
is formidable. We should mind what he says.

What I do find interesting, since David mentions
banks, is that right now we have a military that does IW
for "military" purposes but is dabbling in banking intrusions,
at the same time that we have a CIA dabbling in banking
intrusions for both clandestine (get info) and covert (screw
with people) purposes, and yet we do not have anyone on the
civil side of government, least of all in the White House or
the Office of Management and Budget (sorry, Sally) that is
ready to advise the President that maybe, just maybe, this
is bigger than the military, bigger than digital spycraft,
and really *does* need a national policy and adult leadership.

This is especially urgent in as much as I am reminded
of the fact that we live in a glass house, far more fragile
than anyone else's glass house, just at moment when we are
allowing our little military and spy rag-muffins to go about
taunting others. The title of my book in progress: Smart
People, Dumb Nations: Bad Business.

Banking is a very legitimate target for IW--in fact,
other than information, money is "the" target in IW, but
somebody better tell our generals that we are have moved into
an era of warfare an order of magnitude more complex and more
fraught with danger than any they have ever experienced. The
tunnels of Cu Chi have already been dug, and we evidently
don't realize this.
