Perceptions of level N can be functions of perceptions from level N-1,
N-2, etc. The only constraint on perceptions in the hierarchy is that the
perceptions at level N cannot be a function of any perceptions from a higher
level.

I remember now that when I first read about the hierarchy, I
started to draw it on my whiteboard and it got pretty messy
because of the N-2, etc. levels. Then I lapsed into thinking
of the hierarchy in the more restricted way for some reason;
maybe I was unconsciously defending pre-PCT notions, because
thinking that way kept giving me the sense that "PCT seems
too rigid, too arbitrary, to be fully accepted."
