Condolences to Manchester Folks

[From Rick Marken (2017.05.23.1000)]

Before commenting on any of the posts on CSGNet I want to express my deepest condolences to the people in Manchester in regard to the horrific events that happened in their city last night. I have no idea how people are able to carry on after this kind of thing but carry on we must. I know it will be very hard to muster the strength to do that; it certainly is hard for me and I imagine it will be even harder for those of you in Manchester. But I just wanted you to know that I am thinking of you.Â

Sincere regards

Rick

Rick - thank you for taking the time to send this recognition. I, too, am horrified and saddened by what happened at the end of that concert. And I know these sentiments are echoed by millions around the world who are sending thoughts and prayers to all those who were directly affected…

Hi Barb

I was moved to post this, not only because it was a particularly horrific event but because we have a contingent of PCT people in Manchester (at the University). So I would imagine this would have hit them particularly hard.Â

Thank you for the sentiments. As you say it was difficult to work today having heard the reports last night and today of the tragic events that occurred. Whilst I’ve not been directly affected there has been an atmosphere in Manchester, certainly the city
is in mourning. This evening I attended a vigil in the city centre which was very moving, thousands of Mancunians attended and there was a sense of solidarity and defiance against the hateful actions. Unfortunately there are still many people in hospitals
around the city yet to be reunited with their families.

My thoughts are with those affected, and hope all my friends and colleagues here are safe.

Thanks again for the message.

Best wishes,

Max

Hi Rick

Thanks for thinking of us in Manchester. Like Max said, the city has a very subdued atmosphere at the moment as people try to come to terms with what’s happened. So hard to understand how someone could carry out an attack like that.
It’s been encouraging to see that, so far, it hasn’t had the effect of dividing communities, and hopefully that will continue.

Best wishes

Rob

Thank you Rick and everyone and to Rob and Max for their replies. It is a very shocking and saddening time to be going through. It feels very close to home as my wife and I were at the arena only last week, and the flats the police raided today I used to live in.

It makes me want to try to do something to prevent these kind of incidents in future. However much we build connections and embrace diversity, how do we prevent such horrific attempts to destroy this? It made me think how PCT might actually help.

But that’s probably for another day.

Hope you are all well,

Warren

Ok, it’s another day now.

I want to encourage all of you to contact your local/national media outlets to discuss how PCT provides an approach to understanding these atrocities better, as well as helping people recover from them. Specifically I am hoping to write a piece describing that we need to take people’s intentions seriously (the suicide bomber expressed his intentions as a teenager) but we need to understand intentions in the context of where they fit in a hierarchy of conflicting goals - I hope to use some metaphors to get this idea across. But there are many other angles I imagine. I do genuinely believe we could use PCT to help, so I feel this is appropriate…

All the best,

Warren

I have been thinking about the people of Manchester as well and send you my love and sympathy as you process the shock of this recent event. My heart goes out to the families directly affected.Â
