Could you be my reference?

Hi, Bo--

I may not post the request to CSGnet. I just don't want to make it an issue.

I encourage you to ask for help on CSGnet. You will get a very friendly response, especially from those who met you in China but also from most others. We all appreciate the support given to PCT by Chinese scholars and students, and if there is some way we can help in return we will surely do it.

I am copying this post to CSGnet.

CSGnet, meet Bo Wang (Frank), a brilliant young student from Shanghai who understands PCT very well and would like to come to the United States (or possibly other countries?) to study (if you ask him, he will give you the details). His deadline for applying is one month from now, so ...

Best to everybody,

Bill Powers

Thanks Bill, I'll add something.

Hi, everybody --

My name is Bo WANG. I'm a senior undergraduate student majoring in
Computer Science & Engineering in Shanghai Jiao Tong University, and
am determined to apply to graduate programs in the field of
evolutionary and adaptive systems.

I seek to understand how living control systems adapt to their
environments in their lifetime and the whole evolution history. For
example, I will be interested in studying the role played by reference
signals in the biological evolution. Mutations in genes related with
these signals could make an organism depart its ecological niche.
Moreover, they could lead to social problems in human society.

I also seek to recreate these systems by building robots or computer simulation.

I would appreciate if you could share some information about graduate
programs in this area.

Best regards,

Bo

So what can I do? Does it help for him to have a large number of references? If so, I’m glad to add mine, for what it’s worth.

Thanks a lot, that would be great!

I asked Bill if he could suggest some graduate programs in this area
to me. He replied

I won't be of much use for recommending places to study. Other people in
the CSG who are at universities would be much more helpful -- I suggest
writing a request to CSGnet and asking for ideas.

Best,

Bo
