(because somehow the selection of mode of functioning must occur),
who or what part of the person does this? I assume that your answer
will somehow involve the reorganization system properties
(awareness, arbitrary injection of test signals into the perceptual
control system hierarchy).
I think that Bob Clark's idea of a decision making entity was
created to label this non-random functioning aspect of the
reorganization system.
I did not "create" the DME. Rather, I observed non-random activities
that could not be accounted for by the (intrinsically) random actions
of the reorganizing system. (Bill has recently re-affirmed the
random aspect of the reorg syst.) The "Decision Making Entity" is the
name I proposed for the combination of capabilities necessary to
account for these observations.
It has been suggested that the Reorg Syst could be extended to
include these more organized operations. This is one way to provide
for the organized use and revision of the learned systems, but I think
it is more useful to separate these distinctly different activities.
The concept of a DME can lead to additional observations without the
need for random action with its probability for destructive results.
