[From Rick Marken (2002.09.27.1150)]
Peter Burke's post reminded me that I should announce that the 2003 Meeting of
the Control Systems Group will be held at Loyola Marymount University (LMU) in
Los Angeles from July 23-27. Peter's post reminded me of this because I know
Peter lives near LA now and I hope he (as well as several other folks I know in
the LA area) will be able to attend.
I will provide cost details in a few weeks. But the cost should be about the
same as that of the 2002 conference in North Carolina: about $400 per person,
which will include lodging and meals.
LMU is a beautiful campus on a bluff overlooking Marina del Rey, Santa Monica
bay and the entire LA metro area. The conference will be held in the Hughes
Aircraft corporate offices, which are now part of the LMU campus (Hughes field,
which is being converted into condos, sits at the base of the bluff below LMU).
So the conference facilities will be first rate. The dorms are also very nice
and close to the conference room. LMU is close to LAX so you don't need to rent
a car unless you want to explore LA using our standard mode of transportation.
And, of course, for those times when you want to have a brief respite from PCT
there are plenty of things to do in LA. My wife is arranging all kinds of
recreational activities for those who have better things to do with their
afternoons than stare at computer screens.
I am hoping that at least 40 people will attend the conference. The CSG is
making a deposit to hold the conference facilities; this deposit becomes
non-refundable in January. So we (the officers of CSG) want to get early
confirmation of attendance. If we are not assured of a minimum attendance of 30
by January we will probably have to cancel the conference. So I am sending this
note out now so that those on CSGnet who are planning to attend the conference
can set aside July 23-27 and start making arrangements now. We will mail out a
Conference announcement to everyone (including the many who are not on CSGnet)
once we get the registration cost and terms worked out exactly.
I hope everyone will attend, even those who hate me.
Best regards
Rick
