CSG Annual Conference 2005

[From Bruce Abbott (2004.10.18.1710 EST)]

Next Year's CSG annual conference will be held from Wednesday afternoon,
July 20th to Sunday morning, July 24th, 2005 at Crieff Hills retreat and
conference center, a 250 acre wooded site located near Guelph, Ontario just
a bit west of the Toronto airport. For pictures and other information, take
a look at their website at the following URL:

http://www.crieffhills.com/

The quote I received included costs of single- or double-occupancy rooms
plus meals at an attractive price. Information about reservations and
costs for conferees will be posted at a later time. My thanks go to Martin
Taylor for suggesting this site and making some of the initial inquiries
for us.

Sounds terrific. Christine and I will plan to be there.

Bruce,
Are there any tennis courts?
David
David M. Goldstein, Ph.D.

I guess you should ask me that sort of question. I investigated the
place and visited a couple of times when we were looking for a new
site for the annual CAMMAC Ontario Music Centre summer camp last year.

Yes, I think there is a tennis court or a basketball court (or both)
where it says "court" on the property map
<http://www.crieffhills.com/propertymap.htm>\. It wasn't something I
specifically noted, one way or the other, but in the far background
of one of my pictures, there is a high mesh fence and what looks like
the end of a tennis net at the right location. I can say nothing
about the quality of the court, or whether there is a pair or just
one.

To fend off another related question, swimming areas are a short
drive away, not on site, and I gather not really within walking
distance.

I'll try to post some of my pictures of the buildings we will be
using on my own Web site <http://www.mmtaylor.net> fairly soon. You
can also see pictures on the Crieff Hills Web site. The buildings in
question are Matthew, Mark and Luke, and possibly the Conference
Centre.

Bruce, was the Conference Centre included in what you arranged?

Thanks much to all who checked out sites and made final decisions.

Bobbie and I plan on attending. I was in Guelph this past September for
an outstanding jazz festival and colloquium (see
http://www.guelphjazzfestival.com/) - it's a lively university town with
several fine dining places.

We will enjoy coming to Crieff.

If you are interested in music, at least in participating in it at
any level of competence, you might like to know that there is a music
camp that usually draws participants from as far as Europe and the
North American West coast. At present, I chair it. We offer three
one-week sessions, starting one week after the CSG meeting finishes.
It is held at a private school in the Kawartha Lake country (Prince
Andrew went there), and it isn't very expensive if you compare it
with a week at a resort. For more information, ask me, or check out
<http://www.cammac.ca> and click on the Ontario Music Centre tab.

(Bruce A said it would be OK to mention this, even though it isn't
about PCT. So I hope nobody is offended by the plug.)

I guess you should ask me that sort of question.

Then perhaps I should be asking you whether you think Canada will still be
letting American's in after what could prove to be an extremely embarrassing
electron. But I suppose you folks will still be willing to take money from
the dwindling set of us Americans who have it;-)

Best Regards

Rick
