CSG Web site

[From Rick Marken (981109.0830)]

Is anyone maintaining the CSG website at http://www.ed.uiuc.edu/csg/ ?
Gary Cziko was the web master for this site but maybe his interests
have evolved in new directions;-)

It seems like it would be helpful if this page were updated regularly. Right
now the page is pretty out of date; it has the info about the 1998 meetings
instead of the 1999 meetings. It doesn't list all the PCT relevant web sites
that are available. For example, I know that Dag has a PCT relevant web site;
there are also PCT relevant materials at Richard Kenneway's site; shouldn't
these be listed? There may be other PCT relevant web sites out there
that we
don't know about. I think these should be listed at the CSG Web site.
Also,
it would be nice to have a "current events" page at the GSG site so we
could
keep up on PCT activities. For example, I know that Bill Powers is going to
talk at an IAACT meeting soon (the IAACT has a web site that should probably
be listed at the CSG site); stuff like this should be posted at the CSG site;
also, any new papers on PCT should be listed. Projects like Kennaway's
bug should also be listed, I think, with status updates if possible.

Any suggestions about what to do with the CSG web site? Any volunteers
for web master? Anyone want to control this variable?

Best

Rick

I searched for IAACT with AltaVista and did not
find anything relevant. What does IAACT stand for
and/or what is their website? Thanks in advance.

What's the topic of Bill's talk at IAACT?

Best regards,

"After RT."

It's about PCT, conflict, levels of control, and MOL.

As Rick notes, I have been maintaining the CSGnet website, but lately that
has primarily involved keeping it alive instead of developing it in the
many useful ways that Rick mentions later in his post.

I am still very much interested in PCT and CSG, but my time is very limited
and other activities such as teaching, writing, and various family matters
take precedence. In my current teaching, I am focusing on developing new
ways to use computers and the Web which means many long hours designing Web
materials (for those interested see
http://www.ed.uiuc.edu/courses/edpsych390a). One consequence of this is
that I find it hard to motivate myself to spend yet more time working on
the CSGnet Website.

So it would be a good idea if someone else would take over the CSG Website.
I can continue to keep CSGnet alive unless someone else wants to do that,
too.

Ok. I'll give it a shot. Should I set it up on my server. Or
can you give me access to your server so we don't have to change
the URL.

That little ol' webmaster (and wailin' blues guitarist) me;-)

But I would like to get some comments from others before "handing over" the
Website to you. Should we get approval by the President of CSG (I will
have to be reminded who that is--sorry)? Just because I have been the CSG
Webmaster I don't think that gives me the right to choose my successor
without at least some discussion first..

As President of CSG, I endorse the selection of CSG Secretary Richard
Marken as CSG Webmaster. If you want it more official Gary, how about:

I hereby appoint Richard Marken webmaster for the CSG website at
LISTSERV@POSTOFFICE.CSO.UIUC.EDU with all rights and obligations incumbent
on the office.
