If anyone is still reading CSGNet, I now have 26 people who
(I believe) are committed to attending the CSG 2000 conference
at Boston U. That's 11 more than I had when I made the last meeting
announcement on 1/18/2000. So thanks to all those who have already
"pledged" to attend the CSG meeting (I feel like I'm hosting a
Public Radio fund drive;-)) But I still need nearly 20 more
attendees in order to meet our attendance commitment of 45 to
Boston U.
The conference people at Boston U say that our conference
contract should be ready by the end of February. But if I don't
get attendance commitments from several more people soon (by the
end of next week, say) I think I will have to call and see if
Boston U. will let us lower our estimate of the number of CSG
conference attendees from 45 to, say, 35. (By the way, if you
are attending the meeting with a spouse, he or she counts toward
the commitment total even if he or she is not actually going to
attend the meeting).
I would also like to get some idea of who might be presenting
at the meeting and what they might be presenting. A start at

Boy, it's a good thing I didn't go ahead and plan my retirement
around the continuation of stimulating scientific conversations
on CSGNet;-)
Anyway, BU is finalizing the contract for the CSG meeting.
I'll tell you what I know so far; what I still don't know
(unfortunately) is the _cost_ but I should have that by
next week.
The meeting should be pretty much like the standard CSG
meetings of the past. It will be held in what I am told is
a state of the art classroom in the business school; there
is an internet hookup (via ethernet line, I presume), a
computer display system and even a white board. The room
seats only 36 people but I think that's more than enough
room; we currently have only 28 attendees and some of those
are still not sure. I was hoping for 40+ but I don't think
it's gonna happen. If it does (and I do think it's still
possible) then we'll just have standing room only or we'll
find a bigger room.
Those who are staying at the meeting (in the BU dorms)
will get breakfast each morning at the cafeteria. We
are also promised coffee/tea and cookies at the morning
and evening breaks. There will also be a clam bake dinner
on the final night (Saturday) which will be included in
the conference fee. Clean (kosher) substitutes for the clam
meal will be available for those of you who follow the
Deuteronomic Laws (though stoning of unruly children is
forbidden on the BU campus itself).
