CSGnet archive updated

[Dag Forssell (2017.09.06 20:10 PDT)]

Matti wrote me this morning, saying that he is making progress converting Eudora mailboxes. He asked me to bring the archive up-to-date.

I have not only brought the mailboxes up to date, but have also updated the ReadMeFile and the web page that goes with it. http://www.pctresources.com/CSGnet/index.html

The instance of Eudora that can now be downloaded includes an index file for fast search. I provide the archive only one way, complete. But of course, with the attachments in a separate folder, the way Eudora works.

I zipped the folders both with the older .zip format and the newer .7z format, which makes for smaller files.

Best, Dag

That’s looking pretty good!

Is it possible for the administrator to retroactively move posts

into different categories/topics? It would be useful to manually
move some posts into new topics we create; maths, robotics,
psychology etc.

I noticed a few things about one post I had a look at:

This wasn't actually a csgnet post, but was the text from an

email from a third party (Inman) which I included in a csgnet
post; timestamp (2000.09.11.1430 BST).

As that text has the email headers I guess the parser split the

mbx/mbox text incorrectly at that point. I would imagine there are
other places that happens too. Is it possible for the parser to
check that in the email headers that the email was sent to csgnet,
that should resolve it?

In that post this text is missing, presumably because <-- and

→ are the html comments

" <------Y--------

WORLD AGENT

-------X------->"

Also in this text the (C) appears as the copyright symbol.
"(C) The PCT people realise (A) is stupid, have got half a

grasp on diagram (B), and think the important bit to stress is Y:"

RM: It looks really nice Matti. The database of legacy CSGNet posts is very impressive. Great work.

RM: I would like to see how posting is done? Can you set it up so we can do some test posts?Â

RM: Also, what is the management concept for this mailing list? How will the continuity of the list be maintained? What will it cost?

RM: Â What will be the name and address of the list? How will people find it?Â

RM: Anyway, it does look like the 21st rather than the 20th century. Thanks for doing this.
